Commencement is the ceremony at which degrees are conferred. It is an occasion of great significance to graduates, families and friends, and a formal recognition of academic achievements. The undergraduate ceremony will be roughly 2.5 hours long, and the graduate ceremony will be roughly 1.5-hours long.
Commencement begins with bagpipers and includes speeches by Carroll's president, the class speaker and an honored guest speaker. Then the provost calls the graduates' names for individual recognition, receiving well wishes from university administrators.
Please note your official diploma will be mailed to your permanent address following the ceremony. Please confirm with the registrar that the correct address is on file.
If there is severe weather forecasted for Commencement day, the ceremony will be moved indoors to Van Male Fieldhouse. If the forecast is for a light drizzle or occasional showers, we will keep the ceremony outside, so graduates should dress accordingly.
The guest passes issued to each student for this event are in the form of wristbands. Any guest entering Van Male for the Commencement ceremony must be wearing their guest pass at all times – or they will be asked to stream from the Campus Center Ballroom.
For guests who are unable to attend in person or choosing to live-stream the ceremony, the link will be made available on our commencement website (and emailed out to students prior to the ceremony).
